15th Century Castle: View PDF

The Parador de Zafra is in a majestic castle, on which construction was started in 1437 as the residence of the noble Spanish Dukes of Feria. It is in the centre of the lovely town of Zafra within easy walking distance of the old town. There are nine battlemented towers and a splendid courtyard and interior with coffered ceilings, large chests, ironwork, handrails and other decorative details belonging to the former palace. The bedrooms are stately, elegant and spacious, with full modern bathrooms. The swimming pool and the perfectly tended garden also stand out. The best dishes of the region can be found in the dining room, such as lamb stew, 'migas extremeñas' (fried breadcrumbs) and 'solomillo ibérico al queso de los Ibores' (Iberian sirloin with Ibores cheese). The Parador has standard double rooms (two beds); double with two beds and hydromassage bath, suite, junior suite and double (2 beds) with balcony. Spa therapy is available at this Parador. During the Feria Ganadera (Livestock Fair) 29 September through 6 October the price is generally higher.

Family Information

The nearest golf club to the Parador of Zafra is Guadiana Golf in Badajoz (approx. 50 km) . Carnavales: February, Zafra. Ham festival: 1st week of May, Jerez de los Caballeros, 40 km. Livestock fair: 1st week of October, Zafra. Luna al Fuego: Last week of June (17th century festival). Be sure to visit Convent of Santa Clara, Palace of the Marqués de Solanda, Templars tour - Burguillo del Cerro (19 km.), Jerez de los Caballeros (38 km.), Fregenal de la Sierra (61 km.), Colegiata, Plazas Grande and Chica Tour, Nature tours - Parque de Cornalvo (65 km.), Sierra de Hornachos (45 km.), Sierra de Tentudia.
