Former Pilgrims Hospital on St. James Way: View PDF

The Parador occupies a 12th century former hospital, next to the cathedral, built by Saint Dominic to give shelter to the pilgrims on the Road to Santiago. In a regal and elegant style, it has spacious living rooms and a lobby with Gothic arches and wooden coffered ceilings. Original materials and bright colours - blues and whites - lead to comfortable bedrooms, decorated with exquisite taste, some with four poster beds. The building has a warm and welcoming ambiance. In the restaurant it is possible to sample stuffed 'piquillo' peppers, cod Rioja style and vegetable stew from La Ribera, in addition to the excellent wines of La Rioja. This would be a perfect base from which to enjoy visiting the winegrowing area of La Rioja. In addition to standard double rooms with either two beds or a queen bed, the Parador has double rooms with kingsize bed and canopy (and hydromassage bath), Suite, and handicapped accessible double room (2 beds) A minimum board arrangement of accommodation and breakfast is required from 1 April through 31 October. Local festivals include Wine battle: Haro, Stilt dances: 22 July, Anguiano, 40 km., Fiestas of San Mateo: Logroño, Procession of the maidens: 11 May, Santo Domingo, Procession of the saint: Santo Domingo, 12 May.

“The Parador was lovely, great interior architecture and comfortable room. But there is no parking by the Parador (can drive up to drop off bags, but then must park either on street or in a paid lot..a bit of a walk especially if it is raining. The food was absolutely awful!”
