This is a very popular and highly regarded Parador. A mixture of history, art and tradition, the dream of pilgrims and an emblem of Santiago, the 'Hostal Reyes Católicos', located in the Plaza do Obradoiro, forms a magnificent golden corner with the cathedral, one of the most visited regional capitals of the world. The 'Hostal', which originated as a Royal Hospital in 1499 to give shelter to the numerous travellers making their way to Santiago, today continues to invite the traveller to enjoy rest and relaxation in this fascinating city. Considered to be the oldest hotel in the world, it is also one of the most luxurious and beautiful. It has four beautiful cloisters, elegant living rooms, comfortable bedrooms and a luxurious dining room which offers fish and meat dishes cooked 'a la gallega', in addition to the classical caramelized apple 'filloas' (crepes) and cream. Room types at this Parador include junior suite, double with living room and standard double with either queensize bed or two beds. For a honeymoon, anniversary or other special occasion, consider the Unique Room Package. Enjoy a peaceful and comfortable stay in room 123, built in 1798 by the administrator of the hospital, Nicolás de Neyra, to house his offices and archives. The hall leads on to the bedroom via a few stone steps. The bedroom houses a large and comfortable 1.5 metre-wide four poster bed. The vaulted ceiling and the stone wall are real highlights, lending a welcoming touch to the atmosphere at this unique charming hotel. The two night package including a Tasting Dinner menu is 267 euros per person/night.

We absolutely loved this gorgeous historic masterpiece of a parador! The history associated with it and just walking around reading the information boards, soaking up the atmosphere was amazing. The staff are relaxed and it is easy to feel comfortable exploring the hotel and enjoying the many views, especially the one from its balcony overlooking Praza do Obradoiro. My favourite area was where the terminally ill used to be cared for and the medicinal gardens in the old hospital. We were fortunate to have a view of the cathedral from our room which was very beautiful with superbly comfortable beds. The location is perfect. The service was excellent for ourselves and the children throughout our stay. The food in the hotel restaurant Dos Reis was superb and very reasonably priced and the breakfast had a huge selection. We would love to return one day and it is very rare for us to feel that way.

This lives up to its status as a world-class hotel. Very professional and helpful staff. Beautiful room (even velvet padded hangers) with a fabulous bathroom. Couldn't ask for a better location--handy to anything you would want to see. Be sure and go outside at night to see the cathedral all lit up.

superb location and classic building. Maybe you could state somewehere that it is possible to drive your car in front of the building, it would have saved us some trouble (we were so impressed by the city we did not dare to drive into the road with a sign donot enter)

The hotel is excellent except for the restaurant which prevents the hotel from getting an excellent rating and only a very good rating. The restaurant interior is excellent, except some new changes to the lighting fixtures over the tables are so bright and glaring that the whole dinner experience was miserable. The waiters are polite and efficient but blah-ze. The food was merely ok. We had requested a birthday cake when I made the dinner reservation and I was told they would provide it. The cake was god awful and sloppily decorated as if a child had made it. The hotel was otherwise suberb and despite the restaurant I really enjoyed it.

Very central, interesting building, excellent staff, concierge will park your car for you.
Didn't Like:
Very expensive due to location, room therefore a slight disappointment but noise the big problem from plumbing and footfall above, both of which would be easy to deal with at time of conversion on a buiding of such large mass.

Our stay was excellent although the first and second offer of bedrooms were very poor for a five star hotel. We are waiting for our amigo application to be acknowledged in Madrid sent together with full answers to a questionnaire.

Hotel beautiful. Standard breakfast very poor

Reception unaware of the 10% deposit paid online to the Canadian company. This led to check out problems.

The breakfast staff needs to improve their attitude. Not very friendly. During our stay they were understaffed. It says much about a five star Parador
Rating: Average
The building was magnificent. However, without exception the staff failed to produce even a vestige of a smile. The possible exception to this were the doormen who took in the cases with wheels. leaving us to carry the ones without. This hotel is not worthy of a 5 star rating. We have already expressed these views to tne management who acknowleged the complaint.
Rating: Average
Too crowded in public areas and rooms noisy when it rains.

Food not 5 star.Given pokey little room and had to request a change even though hotel only half full,Breakfast food also cold.Would not stay again.
Rating: Average
Normally excellent, but the noise of the elevators machines and doors are to be listen on the 4th floor 3 (or more? ) rooms, so this rating goes omly to "satisfactory"
