* 15th century castle and palace: View PDF
The Parador occupies one of the wings of a majestic 15th C. palace-castle, declared a National Monument, on which the towers and battlements stand out. In keeping with its medieval setting, it is built on solid stone walls and offers a glimpse of the numerous historical adventures it lived through in other times, such as the holding of parliament under the government of the Noble King. The medieval spirit is maintained on the inside, with beautiful stained glass windows on the staircase and in the dining room, arcades and ornamental details such as armour, rugs, wrought iron lamps and wooden coffered ceilings. The restaurant offers an array of local products: the fresh asparagus and 'piquillo' peppers stand out. The Parador has 28 standard rooms with 2 beds in the new part of the building; in the older part there are twelve superior rooms, most have twin beds but two have a king size bed. While we will make every effort to get you the bed configuration you request, this cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL CONDITIONS AT THIS PARADOR: Minimum stay includes breakfast. During Festival of San Fermin 6-13 July, half or full board is compulsory.

Out of all eight paradors we stayed in, I think this was our favorite (although all were great). Maybe it was because we booked a superior room; we had our own private floor with a fairy tale suite. It had a terrace on the roof with storks in the chimney above us. One of the windows opened up to view, up close and personal, one of the castle turrets. The town of Olite is small and charming and is within easy & pleasant driving distances from other charming villages such as Estella and Puenta da Reina. Lots of tourists come just to visit the castle we were staying in (part is a private parador and part is for the public), although it never felt crowded. Great wineries here, also. Lots of closet space, as we found to be true in all the paradors.

wait sservice in dining room was poor... head waiter passed our table endless times and did not have a menu for us to see... we waited over 30 minutes for a menu!

The rooms were nice and who can hate staying in a palace. The night we arrived there was a wedding at the hotel so things were a little confused and harried. One night we ate in the bar which was a big mistake as it was the worst food we had in Spain. The next night we ate in the restaurant which was quite good.
