17th Century Benedictine Monastery: View PDF
Situated at the highest point of the town of Monforte de Lemos is the San Vicente do Pino monumental complex, comprised of the Keep, the San Vicente do Pino Monastery and the Condes de Lemos Palace; the latter two house the Parador de Monforte's facilities. The origins of the monastery date back to the 9th century, although the current building, erected on the site of an earlier one, is Neo-classical and dates to the 17th century. The 16th century Condes de Lemos Palace, located opposite the monastery, was damaged by fire and restored in the 18th century. The original doorway, with the shields of Lemos and the Castro y Osorio and Enriquez families has been conserved. Today, the palace houses the Paradors magnificent function rooms and dining rooms. The monastery building contains a central Neo-classical cloister of finely-worked stone; it is the monument's most interesting area in terms of architecture, with a layout of slopes and curved channels in the central flooring that were used to collect rain water that was then stored in a cistern beneath the floor tiles. The monastery has been restored and converted into a Parador with 50 rooms distributed around the central cloister. There is also an annex building called the Casa del Monte Fuerte, with a capacity for 100 guests. In addition to the standard hotel services such as restaurant, café, function rooms, etc., the Parador features a sauna, Jacuzzi, seasonal pool and Internet connection. The Condes de Lemos Palace houses the convention and banquet rooms.

Our Feedback
Rating: Excellent “Liked: The room, the food, the architecture and the service were all outstanding. The location was lovely. Didn't Like: There were tours of the fort at 11am and 4pm and we were not advised of this until we asked about going up and looking at the fort on check-out at 12 noon. It was very disappointing to have missed climbing up to the top and hearing the history through a guide. The kids were particularly disappointed that the pool was not opened.” Rating: Excellent “Liked: Great views, interesting building, staff good. Good for stopover. ” Rating: Excellent “(No Comment)” Rating: Very Good “Liked: Efficiency of reception staff.
Choice of olive oils and salt at dinner.
Swimming pool kept clean and lots of seating. Didn't Like: The room wasnt available until 3pm which meant a lot of hanging around as we were promised it would be ready in half an hour.
Didnt get the evening chocolates which we did at all the other Paradors. Also only crisps and occasionally olives with drinks which was different to the other Paradors where you had a small tapas.
Our room was close to where staff smoked/had their breaks and it could be noisy.”
