The ivy-covered hotel is perched on a sheer drop over the River Águeda valley and the castle has a keep which serves as an unbeatable observatory to look out over the Campo Charro landscapes. This is the ideal enclave to discover the beauty of the marvellous surrounding nature and appreciate the rich history of Ciudad Rodrigo. There is a lovely garden, meticulous period details, Castilian furnishings, a splendid patio and bright rooms - some with exceptional views. The stone arches in the dining room are special as is the typical Charro cuisine with the standout local sausage - farinato - succulent roasts and Iberian hams. In addition to double rooms with either two beds or a queensize bed, the Parador also offers a double room with two beds and living room. A special room is Doña Leonor de Trastámara (129) - once the marriage between Fernando I of Portugal and Leonor, daughter of Enrique II of Trastámara, was arranged, the Portuguese nobleman agreed to hand his wife some Castilian towns under his control, including Ciudad Rodrigo. Although the marriage never took place, the towns were handed over - the castle being a testimony to this. The room bearing her name is both large and comfortable. With red velvet décor, the 5-metre high vault stands out in this charming room. A two night special including dinner and other special benefits is 211.33 euros per person per night.
