16th Century Palace: View PDF

In the historic quarter of the sizeable town of Ávila, this Parador is within the former 16th century Piedras Albas Palace, backing onto the impressive city walls. In keeping with its surroundings, the hotel's interior has a warm and intimate feel, using bright colours, granite and adobe. The guestbedrooms are all ensuite and some have four poster beds. The Parador has a garden containing archaeological remains, a magnificent glass-roofed courtyard, partitionable function rooms and a cafeteria. Facilities include elevator, heating, air conditioning, restaurant, bar, internet access in communal areas, shop, garden, currency exchange, and car park. The hotel's restaurant provides a beautiful view over the gardens and the city walls. Here you can sample the 'pucheretes teresianos' (vegetable and pork stew), roast suckling pig, veal chops, Judías de El Barco (local bean dish) and the excellent yemas de la Santa (delicious dessert made from egg yolks). In addition to double rooms with either queen size bed or two beds, the Parador also has rooms with a king bed and living room, suite, and double with living room. Minimum 2 night stay over Easter and 2-7 December.

Avila is 115 km. from Madrid. Local festivals include Fiestas de verano (summer festivals): July. Santa Teresa: 15th of October. The Parador can give you information about microlights - if you are the adventurous type. In Avila, we recommend visiting the many museums, Basilica of San Vincente, the Cathedral, Monasteries, The convents of Santa Teresa and Santo Tomás, Cuatro Postes (four-posted monument), City walls.

“You have a particularly excellent person at Avila. We couldn't find any parking she ran ouside, found a place to park up the street and stood in the spot untill we could get there she was great! I wish I could remember her name, but she was studying English at the time and I saw her be very helpfull to other guests at your Parador. She seemed to be a senior staff member (even though she was quite young)and a credit to your establishment.”
